How a global marketing leader enables seamless, secure access for a distributed workforce.
When your job is to help the world’s most iconic brands reach billions of people, you can’t let connectivity issues slow you down. PMG, a global independent marketing services and technology company, delivers omnichannel strategy, media, insights, and creative content production — and they do it from anywhere in the world, on any device.
PMG’s team helped the world’s leading headphone brand reach 1.2 billion people worldwide, using proprietary data and technology that set the brand apart and created a strong competitive edge.
So it’s no surprise that their team is constantly on the move — meeting with clients, working remotely, or logging in from airports and hotels. They needed a secure, reliable way to access the company’s internal network from anywhere, on any device — whether that’s an iPhone in New York, a Windows laptop in London, or an Android tablet in Tokyo.
—“A good VPN is important because we're often traveling to customer sites and need remote access back to the office. Working from home, even working from vacation sometimes — we’re just always connecting from different places and need a safe, secure, and fast connection.”
Ben Alexander, Vice President of Product, PMG
The challenge: security without compromise
PMG initially tried to integrate Microsoft’s VPN but quickly ran into limitations: the solution didn’t fully support smartphones or Apple platforms. As a result, employees couldn’t reliably connect from the devices they used most — leading to frustration and lost productivity.
They needed a VPN that could keep up with their flexible, fast-moving team and allow secure access to company resources from any device, any time.
The solution: any device, any time access with OpenVPN
PMG turned to OpenVPN because our self-hosted solution, Access Server, supports a wide range of deployment environments — from cloud infrastructure providers and virtualization hypervisors to physical devices. It’s compatible with all major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Because OpenVPN is built on a standardized, open source protocol, nearly any device that supports the OpenVPN protocol can connect to Access Server. That includes a wide range of third-party and open source VPN clients, along with OpenVPN’s official client software, OpenVPN Connect.
For PMG, that means employees can securely access internal tools and data no matter where they are or what device they’re using — whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Wherever the work takes them, they can connect quickly, safely, and reliably.
The result: always connected, always secure
Today, PMG’s globally distributed team stays connected and productive from wherever their work takes them. With OpenVPN, there are no more platform limitations or security concerns on the road. Just fast, reliable, and secure access — so they can focus on innovating and delivering results for clients around the world.
